All Is Calm Preview

Audience responses to All Is Calm:

The most powerful message delivered to the stage since Les Misérables
“Unfortunately I was not able to attend the live performance at the Pantages, however I was lucky enough to experience the premier last year, December 2007, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In a word: WOW! Not only is the choral musicianship absolutely first-rate, but there was clearly much painstaking historic research that went into this production that we all should appreciate. It is my sincerest hope that this production becomes a holiday regular, alongside the Guthrie's ‘Christmas Carol’, or the Minnesota Chorale/Minnesota Orchestra's ‘Messiah’ performances.”

Amazing
“Peter Rothstein is brilliant, and Cantus and their tight harmonies are amazing. A story to restore your faith in humanity.”

A most beautiful production
“We attended the Thursday night performance and were transported back to 1914... to the trenches. It was a most special night that I will not forget. The songs were beautifully sung and the stories touching. It will become a Christmas favorite. Thank you!”

The Western Front, Christmas, 1914. Out of the violence comes a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing Stille Nacht. Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, peace. Re-live this remarkable true story from WWI through the words and songs of the men who lived it.

Cantus, Theater Latté Da and Hennepin Theatre Trust present the highly anticipated return engagement of All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 by Peter Rothstein, with musical arrangements by Erick Lichte and Timothy C. Takach. Through new arrangements of European carols and war-songs, All Is Calm recalls the remarkable World War I truce between Allied Forces and German soldiers in No Man's Land on Christmas, 1914.

“A classic to be repeated for years to come.”
Minneapolis Star Tribune

“A dramatic, real-life musing about the power this season has to make us stop, reflect, and decide to operate in a mode of peace.”
Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine

“A work of beauty...”
Saint Paul Pioneer Press
