Accounting Manager

Hennepin Theatre Trust, owner of the historic Orpheum, State, Pantages and New Century Theatres, is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to arts-inspired community cultural development. The Accounting Manager ensures the completion of all aspects of processing and closing the month-end and required reporting. The position is responsible for reconciling shows and underlying data. The accounting manager leads the process for preparing financial statements in a timely manner in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The person in this role should be able to think analytically, work collaboratively, solve problems, communicate effectively, and be self-motivated.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily Duties

  • Manages and executes the accounts payable and receivable process
  • Ensures cash, checks and credit card receipts are properly applied
  • Ensures all accounting transactions are handled according to company policy and in compliance with GAAP accounting standards and practices

Monthly Duties

  • Reviews and analyzes journal entries and general ledger accounts in preparation for monthly financial statements
  • Prepares all reconciliations of shows, projects, and general ledger accounts
  • Manages fixed assets
  • Generates monthly financial statements
  • Manages monthly tax reporting requirements
  • Provides financial insights and root cause analysis to management

 Annual Duties

  • Supports all audit and reporting requirements, such as financial, lease, workers’ compensation and insurance
  • Oversees 1099 reporting

 Ongoing Duties

  • Prepares financial components in grant applications and other external reporting requirements
  • Assist in tracking and reporting on special projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 QUALIFICATIONS

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting and budgeting
  • Strong understanding of non-profit accounting
  • Proficient using general ledger systems
  • Strong attention to detail, deadlines, accuracy and follow-through
  • Ability to transition quickly from tactical to strategic perspectives
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, proactively and utilize good judgment
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Computer skills and experience, specifically with spreadsheets
  • Able to keep confidential information private and secure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs

Desired Skills

  • Current CPA designation
  • Familiarity with CRM and general ledger integrated software
  • Interest in the arts
  • Experience with budgeting and reporting for internal and external purposes
  • Experience with non-profit specific transactions (capital campaigns, endowments, etc.)

  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and on call as necessary
