Barbara Klaas is a long-time leader of public education in Minnesota. She served on the Hopkins School Board, founded the Alliance for Student Achievement, chaired the Association for Metropolitan School Districts, chaired the Minnesota School Boards Association, and, most recently, served on the board of Parents United for the Public Schools. Klaas is also an active civic leader, serving on the board of MinnPost, on the Twin Cities advisory council of Minnesota Public Radio and as a Governing Member of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. In recognition of her service to the schools and community, Klaas received the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce “Woman of Achievement” Award for Outstanding Community Service. Klaas is a graduate of Smith College, former president of the Smith College Club of Minnesota and an MBA in Finance from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. She worked as a marketing officer for Shawmut Corporation of Boston and Norwest Bancorporation (now Wells Fargo).
