Matt Nielsen joined Hennepin Theatre Trust in 2017. He brings more than 20 years of experience as an executive development officer for high-profile organizations in Minneapolis, including public universities, private colleges, art museums and cultural venues. He most recently completed eight years at the University of Minnesota, where he directed regional development in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada for the University of Minnesota Foundation. He also completed a $14 million capital campaign for the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum and managed the annual fund at the Bell Museum of Natural History.
Prior to his work with the University of Minnesota, Matt served at three other Twin Cities organizations: the Minnesota Zoo, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and St. Olaf College’s School Nature Area Project. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College..
Matt loves travel. He has visited over 28 countries and nearly every state, with a particular fondness for museums, theaters and historic architecture. Matt has enjoyed remodeling over a dozen historic homes and spending time at his cabin with family and friends.
