Tanya Gravening serves as the public art manager for our Public Art and District Engagement department. She works closely with our Director of Hennepin Theatre District Engagement and Public Art Manager overseeing labor and project management for our many public art and placemaking initiatives along Hennepin Avenue. Tanya’s past experience provided a unique skill set for this role as a graphic designer and production artist as well as an off-premise event supervisor, then operations manager for a high-end catering company. She is also an independent curator of art in non-art venues.
Tanya studied oil painting and printmaking at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Achieved a Master of Liberal Studies with a Museum Studies Minor from the University of Minnesota. Tanya’s thesis, “The Art of Plastic Pollution: Creating Awareness Through Community Collaboration” was published by LAP LAMBERT. Artworks supported the thesis, one example, “Plastic Obelisk” is a thirteen-foot-tall sculpture constructed of non-recyclable plastic trash.
