Director Conversation: Consent Culture and Safe Rehearsal Rooms

Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 9:00 am

Join teaching artists Jessica Staples and Madeline Geier for our November Second Saturday Director Conversation about consent in educational theater. How do we define consent as a community and encourage a culture of consent in our schools and theater spaces? Starting in the classroom and moving into auditions, the rehearsal process, and performances – what are the things we can do as educators to keep everybody we work with safe?

JESSICA STAPLES is a performer, teacher, and healer in the Twin Cities. She is currently beginning her 5th year at DeLaSalle High School as a resident choreographer and her first year at FAIR School. As a humanitarian, Jessica is thrilled to be a part of Spotlight’s Artist Cohort to help spread some light!

MADELINE GEIER is a theatre educator, administrator, and accessibility specialist. Working with learning of all ages, she enjoys facilitating programs focused on beginning through advanced acting, audition technique, boundaries and self-care for actors, creative drama, improvisation, sensory drama, Shakespeare, and multidisciplinary approaches to core class material. She has taught for multiple organizations in the Twin Cities, primarily Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) where she has worked full-time in both Education & Development and served for three years as Sensory Friendly Liaison.
