State Theatre

Flying Bach, interprets the music of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “The Well-Tempered Clavier”, widely regarded as one of the most important works in the history of classical music. The result is an entertaining and electrifying production for people of all ages and demographics. Since its debut in 2014, the world’s first classical music and breakdancing crossover show has sold more than a half million tickets and performed in 35 countries.

The show itself combines Bach’s classical masterpiece with modern electronic beats and clever choreography, a blending of the creative minds of Creative Director Vartan Bassil and the accomplished classical pianist, creative Director Christoph Hagel.   “Flying Bach combines urban culture with classical influences, replacing ballerinas doing pirouettes with world champion breakdance artists,” says Bassil. The story follows seven dancers and one teacher, rehearsing for their big day as arguments, fights, disappointments and delights ensue. A mysterious woman joins the story and the conflicts climax: contemporary dance meets breakdance, man meets woman, desire meets refusal, and arrogance meets curiosity.
