Masterclasses

Three different types of masterclasses

Masterclasses give Spotlight Education schools the opportunity to supplement and enhance their own musical theater curriculum by gaining insights and inspiration from local and touring theater professionals. Topics include audition technique, singing technique, movement, orchestra, technical theater, dance and more.

Community Conversations provide educators and students from all backgrounds a safe space to discuss, explore and reflect on topics and issues high school theatre communities face across the state of Minnesota.

Date: Tuesday, December 15
Time: 4-5:30 p.m.
Location: Online, from the comfort of your home

Even hearing the word “Shakespeare” sometimes feels overwhelming, not to mention the words, phrasing, punctuation! How does one even begin to approach this material to make it less foreign? Together we will learn skills to apply to any piece of verse, prose or sonnet by breaking it all down and making it tangible and understandable because – here’s the thing – there’s a reason this work is still being taught and performed. Simply: these stories and characters are relatable and the text is closer than you think. Shakespeare is for everyone – let that be you, too!

The NEWS masterclass series brings educational skill building opportunities to students and programs in Greater Minnesota where access to professional theater is experiences is limited. Spotlight Education  brings masterclasses in areas of performance, technical, and/or educational theater to schools outside of the Twin Cities Metro area. Spotlight Education  chooses a “host school” to bring the masterclasses and then invites students from surrounding Spotlight  schools to the event. Spotlight works with the host school to decide specific masterclass topics, and then brings professional teaching artists to lead the sessions. If your school is interested in hosting a NEWS masterclass for the 2019-2020 school year, please contact Spotlight Education  at SpotlightEducation@HennepinTheatreTrust.org.

Beyond Broadway series (touring musicians, comedians, etc.)

The beyond Broadway masterclass series gives students the opportunity to engage with and learn from current touring performers in areas other than Broadway, including comedy, concerts and more.
