Traffic warning for October 10 Mean Girls show

Trump rally to bring major street closings, delays downtown

Police expect tens of thousands of people to descend on downtown Minneapolis October 10 for President Donald Trump’s rally, and ticket holders for the Mean Girls show that night are urged to plan ahead and consider alternative modes of transportation. Trump’s rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Target Center, and doors will open at 4 p.m. In addition to attendees, police expect thousands of protesters to descend on the area. Parking is expected to be extremely difficult.

According to city officials, all roads around the Target Center will be closed beginning Wednesday evening. Traffic will be rerouted and delays are expected until the area is cleared after the rally.

In addition, the following access to/from Interstate 394 will close Thursday morning:
•    Exit ramp to Sixth Street North
•    HOV entrance ramp at Third Avenue North and Fifth Street North
•    Access to Ramps A and B (accessed only from local streets)

Local or federal authorities may close additional streets without notice.

The situation will be particularly challenging due to an extensive reconstruction project along Hennepin Avenue in front of the Orpheum Theatre, between 7th and 12th avenues.

City officials suggest using alternate transportation including light rail. Metro Transit is planning regular service with detours as needed to navigate closed streets. If you’re driving to the theatre, look for parking lots on the south end of downtown, furthest away from the rally and expected protests. Be prepared for potential long walks to the theatre.
