Andres Perez
Andres Perez is a Mexican-American artist exploring identity and culture through photography. Native to Acapulco, Guerrero, he moved to Minnesota at the age of 18 and started working professionally as an artist in 2015. He is a self-taught photographer, beginning his career in graphic design and eventually pivoting into photography. Andres is focusing on portrait photography projects that benefit artists and their work, and his personal art practice.
About the Subjects:
The Awadallah sisters are an emerging force in the dance community. Leila is the recipient of several fellowships in support of her artistry: Jerome Hill, McKnight, and Springboard 20/20. Noelle graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a BFA in dance and moved to the Twin Cities in 2019 to join Ananya Dance Theater, a company of which both sisters have deep ties.
Leila and Noelle perform to express feeling as an action. Rather than “making a dance” they are interested in “finding dance” through improvising. Gather movements that come from internal knowledge and stories of the body, and external reflections with specific context, all of which become contemporary dance choreographies. Through their project Body Watani, they bring awareness to the occupation of Palestinian land and people while reflecting on their own relationships to Mni Sota. Through dancing, they invite networks of mutuality that deepen Palestinian solidarity and awareness in the Twin Cities.
