James Napoli
James Napoli is a visual artist, radio storyteller, writer and event producer based in Saint Paul. His photographic work encompasses portraiture and documentary with a focus on the performing arts and rural life, labor, and landscape. For the past decade, much of his practice has centered on building community through image-making and by spotlighting the creative individuals who strengthen their local cultural fabric with their talents and labor. He approaches photography as a practice somewhat akin to haiku, where the eternal and the ephemeral are captured in a single image. Like a good poem, he aims to create work that grounds viewers in the specificity of a distinct time and place, while also revealing greater truths about the human condition.
