Kristine Heykants

Kristine heykantsThis year for “It’s the People,” teaching artist Kristine Heykants led high school students from The FAIR High School for the Arts in exploring a theme of “Emergence” through the lens of photography. For the project, the students created a portfolio of images depicting their altered identities and social connections as they navigate post-pandemic life. From this diverse portfolio of images that reflect a range of social dynamics, themes, ideas and personas, Heykants selected six images for the campaign. These images will be displayed on the school building exterior and billboards around the metro.

Heykants holds a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications and a BFA in art and design. She has received grants from the Jerome Foundation, McKnight Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board and exhibits widely. Heykants also teaches digital media at Minneapolis College.
